Cela fait un moment que je n’ai pas posté. Et c’est un tort, je vais m’y remettre tout de suite.
Pour reprendre les publications sur ce blog, je voulais vous parler d’un film qui m’a bouleversée et qui est sorti au début de l’année 2022.
Ce film c’est Entre les vagues de Anaïs Volpé. L’histoire d’amitiée fusionnelle et sorore entre deux jeunes femmes, belles, rayonnantes et ambitieuses, interprétées par Souheila Yacoub et Deborah Lukumuena.
C’est également une histoire sur la passion du théâtre, la passion de la création et du spectacle vivant.
On rencontre en effet les deux héroïnes lors d’une audition mouvementée où elles se battent (littéralement) pour se faire remarquer pour obtenir un rôle dans un seul en scène. Elles sont en compétition pour le rôle et se soutiennent mutuellement.
Finalement Alma aura le rôle et Margot sera sa doublure.
Et cette « hiérarchie » dans leur réussite n’entame absolument pas leur amitié bien au contraire. Elles se soutiennent dans les répétitions et célèbrent ensemble.
C’est un autre évènement qui va venir chambouler cette relation et qui va pousser chacune à tenter de protéger l’autre coûte que coûte.
La puissance du film repose sur le jeu absolument parfait de ses deux actrices principales. Je me rappelle avoir pleuré à chaudes larmes dans la salle de cinéma devant la puissance et la justesse du jeu de Souheila Yacoub. Il y a une fraicheur et une alchimie incroyable entre Déborah Lukumuena et elle.
La photographie est aussi magnifique – et c’est un sujet primordial pour moi, j’aime les films aux univers visuels marqués – et est signée du chef opérateur américain Sean Price Williams. Le film mêlant la réalité des deux personnages principales avec les images d’illustrations de la ville de New York liée à l’histoire du seule en scène qu’elles interprètent, l’esthétique un peu vieillot (comme des images de Super 8 ou de polaroïd par moment) fonctionne à merveille.
C’est un film émouvant, brillamment interprété, plein de vie qui fait du bien au coeur même si il m’a personnellement fait beaucoup pleuré !

It’s been a while since I last posted. And this cannot stay that way so here I am.
To start again, I wanted to discuss a film that really moved me and which was released in France at the beiginning of 2022.
This film is The Braves (Entre les Vagues in French), directed by Anaïs Volpé. It is the story of an intimate and sisterhood like friendship between two young women, both radiant, beautiful and ambicious, and who are portrayed by Souheila Yacoub and Deborah Lukumuena.
It is also a story about being passionate about theater, artistic creation and live shows.
Indeed, we meet these two characters during an animated – to say the least – audition during which they fight – litterally – for a unique one woman show role. They are competing each other for the role while supporting each other at the same time.
In the end, Alma will get the role and Margot will be her alternate. And this « hierarchy » in their success will not even slightly damage their relationship, on the contrary. They support each other during rehearsals and celebrate together.
Something else is going to turn their relationship upside down and will push them to protect the other whatever it takes.
The film’s power resides in the absolutely perfect acting from both main actresses. I remember crying out loud in the movie theater looking at the powerful and truthful acting from Souheila Yacoub. There are a freshness and an unbelievable chemistry between Deborah Lukumuena and her.
The cinematography is also beautiful – and it is a very important aspect to me, I love movies with a clear visual atmosphere – and is done by the American director of photography Sean Price Williams. The film mixes together the reality of the two main characters with images showing New York City to illustrate the one woman show’s story they act in so the old looking aesthetic of the movie (like Super 8 or Polaroid images) works perfectly.
It is a movie that is incredibly moving and – as mentioned before – brilliantly portrayed, full of life and who brought me such joy despite having made me cry so much !
