The Man, The Legend – on Stage
This was kind of a crazy spur of the moment thing when I decided to go see Elton John this month at the Honda Center in Anaheim, CA. I think Elton John is one of the few singers that my parents listened to when I was a kid and that I still enjoy. Some of his songs are so iconic and always had a spot on my Spotify playlist, plus he is the guy who wrote songs for the Lion King and when you are from my generation this is just legit amazing credentials !
When it was released I was obsessed with the movie Rocketman (Elton, Taron, Richard… I mean…) which made me listen again to a lot of Elton John’s songs. So I was kind of in a Elton John phase when a new friend whom I had just met told me she went to his concert in LA and even though she was not a huge fan and even went to this concert a bit reluctantly she was blown away. She also told me it was his last tour before he retires from touring to spend time with his family. So I was like “OK this guy’s a legend and it might be my last shot to see him live… let’s go” As his concert in LA (well in Anaheim more precisely) was right when my parents were coming to visit 3 months later I put my brother and sister in the loop to offer this to our parents and there we were !
And man… You see this 72 year old guy just killing it on stage, the piano, the voice, the visuals … everything was on point. We did not have the best seats (at all) but still we managed to see very well and feel included in the performance. Elton John is a legend and there is a reason for that. He knows how to put on a show, he knows how to surround himself with talented and sympathetic musicians and artists. I was blown away and singing I’m still standing, Tiny Dancer and much more throughout the 2h drive back to Santa Barbara that night !
So if you have the chance (and a budget) go see that legend on stage before the end of his tour next year. You will not be disappointed.
J’ai pris la décision sur un coup de tête en mai dernier d’aller voir le concert d’Elton John qui se tenait au Honda Center d’Anaheim (près de Los Angeles) en Septembre. Je crois qu’Elton John est un des rares musiciens que mes parents écoutaient quand j’étais petite et que j’écoute toujours maintenant. Certaines de ses chansons sont de tels classiques et en plus il a écrit les chansons pour le Roi Lion et je ne pense pas qu’il y ait meilleures références pour quelqu’un de ma génération si ?
Au moment de sa sortie, j’étais complètement obsédée (encore une fois) par le film Rocketman (Taron, Elton, Richard… comment ne pas l’être ?) ce qui m’a fait réécouter pas mal de chansons d’Elton John. J’étais donc déjà dans une bonne phase Elton John quand une amie que je venais de rencontrer m’a parlé du concert d’Elton John qu’elle avait vu quelques mois auparavant lors de son premier passage dans la région. Bien qu’elle n’était pas du tout une fan d’Elton John à la base et bien qu’elle soit même aller au concert sans grand enthousiasme elle a été bluffée. C’est elle aussi qui m’a dit qu’il s’agissait de la dernière tournée d’Elton John qui arrête les tournées pour se consacrer à sa famille. C’était assez pour me dire “OK, ce gars est une légende et c’est peut être une des dernières chances de le voir en concert, let’s go !” et comme son concert était pile au moment où mes parents me rendaient visite en Californie, j’ai mis mes frère et sœur dans le coup pour offrir les places à nos parents et voilà !
Et pfff.. Tu vois ce Monsieur de 72 ans qui déchire tout sur scène, le piano, la voix, les effets visuels… tout était parfait. Nous n’avions pas les meilleures places (loin de là) et pourtant nous avons bien vu et nous sentions partie intégrante du spectacle. Elton John est une légende et il y a de bonnes raisons à cela. Il sait faire le show, il sait s’entourer de musiciens et d’artistes sympas et talentueux. J’ai été épatée et j’ai chanté à tue tête I’m still standing, Tiny Dancer et beaucoup d’autres sur les 2h de route pour rentrer à Santa Barbara ce soir là!
Si vous avez l’occasion (et le budget) allez voir cette légende sur scène avant la fin de sa tournée l’an prochain.
